The Los Angeles Film Festival is just eight days away! With nearly 200 screenings and events packed into 11 days, we wouldn’t blame you for feeling overwhelmed by it all. If you’re having trouble figuring out which films will  be your cup of tea, these picks from Associate Director of Programming Doug Jones are a good place to start. In the coming days, we’ll share more picks from other members of our Festival programming team. Giuseppe Makes a Movie  “These are not people you would expect to see on a movie screen. These are people are you see hanging outside of 7-11s late at night.”

Billy Mize and the Bakersfield Sound    “[Billy Mize] was a huge figure in the local scene. He wrote hit songs, he had hit TV shows, he’s admired and revered by fellow musicians, but he’s not someone who ever really got the national attention he deserved.”

The Kidnapping of Michel Houellebecq   “One person you’ll meet at this year’s festival is Michel Houellebecq, who is a French author and poet and a provocateur. He’s considered a national treasure, but he’s also something of a national pain in the ass.”—

My Name is Salt   “You may like salt; you may think you eat too much salt; you have no idea what it takes to farm salt.”
